Francisco Reina, New Homes Manager with Lightly Treading, Inc. was hired to estimate the projected energy performance of our new home based on the intended design. Francisco used computer modeling software to generate a report showing our relative energy use index called the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index.
During and after construction, Francisco will confirm the HERS index with visual inspections as well as performance testing for air leaks.
Francisco’s passion for the environment and commitment to energy independence was evident to me right away. Our design presented a few challenges for the modeling software. For example, the greenhouse/dining room windows allow for passive solar gain while losing energy at night. Francisco kept trying new ways to best capture the design intent for the most accurate projected HERS index.
Born and raised in Colorado, Francisco enjoys outdoor activities and natural foods. His work experiences have taken him from construction, underground coal mining international studies, motorcycle retail, the IT industry, and ultimately to his life in building science and building energy performance.
